David Broder On Evan Bayh's Departure
David Broder, dean of Washington journalists, has written a column on Evan Bayh's decision to quit the Senate. Bayh told Broder that the "sorry episode" of the debt reduction commission convinced him it was time to quit. Bayh had argued for the commission and earned President Obama's endorsement. It passed the Senate 53 to 47 but lacked the necessary 60 votes to avoid a filibuster and so died. Bayh was done. You can read Broder's column here.
